Here are some relaxation tools that I have made and some others I have added from YouTube to be used to help you promote a sense of calm, peacefulness, restfulness and sleep. Please note that not all of these are tools are made by CBT Dublin. Our therapist has tested these and enjoyed using them herself and has recommended them to her clients time and again as a relaxation tool. We would love to hear your own feedback and any suggestions you may have to improve or contribute to this relaxation tool page. Relaxing is a necessity for a balanced life and good mental well being. Particularly in this busy world, relaxation is reducing replaced by TV, surfing the internet or other mind active pursuits. Even though the body may be resting on the couch it is vitally important that the mind gets a break too and these sound files are great for switching off to. Through this relaxation your body and mind both benefit at the same time.
It is highly recommended that you find a quiet spot to play these in, ideally lying down or reclining on a comfortable chair with your feet up and eyes closed. If you are listening to them for time out, setting an alarm in case you fall asleep will allow your mind to rest even more deeply so that even if you drift into light sleep you will be woken up and feel re-energised, ready to carry on with your day. They are great for helping with stressful or anxious times but also for pure indulgence, getting some quality 'me' time and letting go of the days activities. A great time to do this is when you get in after work or college for the evening, take yourself off to a quiet room and listen to a relaxation file for a short break before getting on with the rest of your day. 10 minutes a day of time out is a minimum to aim for but those 10 minutes seem to go on for ever! Enjoy relaxation daily and reap the rewards.
CBT Dublin has recorded a Progressive Relaxation Technique for you to use when you need to relax and unwind. It is the perfect antidote to stress, anxiety and worry and also great for general mental well-being. Find a comfy place to sit or lie and indulge yourself with some quality time out.
